Woman caught with sex toys at Mumbai airport

Mumbai, July 19: In the last few month, many celebrities have been caught at the international airport with undeclared goods.

While some carried branded goods like high-end purses, shoes and bags, others tried to walk through the green channel with undeclared jewellery.

However, yesterday it was the turn not of a celebrity, but of a 50-year-old NRI woman to be intercepted by the Mumbai Customs.

She was carrying banned sex toys, expensive lingerie, kinky games on CDs and over Rs 6 lakh worth of jewellery through the green channel.

The woman, identified as Bacchu Bhai, was caught when Deputy Commissioner Sameer Wankhede intercepted her, as she was about to cross the green channel. She was later handed over to the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) for further investigation.

“We recovered gold jewellery worth about Rs 6.5 lakh and sex toys including sex game CDs (different models) and high-end lingerie worth Rs 3.5 lakh,” said an AIU official.

He added that the woman mentioned in her statement that the items were for personal use and that she was unaware of the law that restricts carrying items like sex toys.

The official also revealed that the woman is a US resident and that she flew to Mumbai to attend her daughter’s wedding.

Additional Commissioner of AIU of Mumbai customs, Mahendra Pal told MiD DAY, “The woman was intercepted with jewellery and sex toys, and she has been booked under the section 110 of Indian customs Act and all her goods has been seized. She was released on the same day but she will be called in for further investigation.”

This is not the first time that a person has been caught with banned items at the airport. Last month the Mumbai customs arrested Mohammed Shoaib in possession of Iridium powder, a banned chemical.

Customs officials suspected that the person was part of a larger network operating on the Hong Kong-Bangkok-India air routes.
