Woman brutally murdered for demanding repayment of money

The body of a 45-year-old woman who was brutally murdered was recovered from a house at the Kancharapalem area in the city. According to police, David alias Venu had borrowed Rs 50,000 from a local money lender V Yerramma (45), who is also a local fishwoman. Following a dispute over repayment of the borrowed money, Venu reportedly had invited Yerramma to his house on February 11, promising to repay the money and stabbed her to death. The accused, a construction worker, left home telling locals that he was visiting his in-laws house. However, locals informed the police after a foul smell from Venu’s house. The police broke a newly constructed wall inside the house, and found Yerramma’s body, with her right hand chopped off. Since Yerramma’s husband Appa Rao had lodged a complaint that his wife had gone missing, police managed to confirmed that it was her body, which was sent for postmortem. A manhunt is on to nab the culprit who has absconded, the police said. PTI
