A day after Mumbai police commissioner Satyapal Singh’s averment that the city would be safer for women, a 35-year-old housewife was attacked near her Sewree residence by her drunk neighbour over a dispute. The accused, identified as Vilas Chorghe (32), was arrested soon thereafter. According to police, Chorghe waited at the building near the Sewree bus depot this evening, and attacked Preeti, the woman, with a chopper when she went to a parking area to get her Scooty. He slashed her at least three-four times, a police officer said. According to the officer, Chorghe actually wanted to attack her father over some dispute, but since the father could not be found, he attacked the woman. “A drunken Chorghe also tried to resist arrest and got into a scuffle with our officers,” the officer said. He has been charged with attempt to murder as well as with obstructing public servants from discharging their duties. The woman is currently at the KEM hospital, where she is being treated for cuts to her neck and arms, the police said. PTI
