Woman arrested for killing husband with lover’s help

Kolkata: A woman and her lover have been arrested in West Bengal’s Howrah district for allegedly murdering her middle aged husband during an altercation over her extramarital affair, police said on Sunday.

“Ratan Nath, 45, a resident of Howrah’s Bantra area was allegedly killed by his wife Sarmistha Nath and lover Rajib Mondal on Saturday night. Nath was hit on the back of his head with a blunt weapon,” said a senior officer from Bantra police station.

According to the family members of the deceased, Sarmistha, who was married to Nath for 20 years, was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with their pets trainer Mondal since the last few years and he often stayed over at their place.

“I am sure it is a planned murder. I often heard them fighting over Sarmistha’s extra marital affair. I am sure they planned to kill him so that they can continue their relation,” alleged Ratan’s sister.

Police said the two accused allegedly attacked Nath, a car mechanic by profession, on Saturday night following a heated exchange and later informed police about his death inside the garage to make it look like an accident.

“The wife and her lover has been arrested following the incident. It is not clear who has committed the murder. Both have been sent to seven days police custody,” the officer added.
