Banglore, January 04: A 31-year-old woman was arrested by the Nandini Layout police for kidnapping an 11-monthold child to blackmail her lover by claiming it to be his child. Although Gowramma, a tailor, planned to successfully end the episode by tying the wedding knot with her lover on January 5 in Chennai, the city police intervened and arrested her on Saturday night.
Gowramma was married to a tender-coconut vendor and they have a nine-year-old son. Her husband is said to be suffering from some illness.
They were staying in Yeshwantpur with Gowramma’s parents.
However, four years ago, Gowramma had an affair with Shivamani. She had met him once in a marketing event. Police said that Shivamani also took Gowramma to his hometown Chennai, where the duo spent about 15 days together. Gowramma allegedly was eyeing Shivamani as he was better off than her husband and planned to marry him.
Gowramma stayed away from him briefly and claimed that she was pregnant with his child.
On December 27, she had been to the house Narayana Reddy, one of her family friends, who owns a provisions store in Nandini Layout. He told police that Gowramma, after staying overnight, escaped the following day with their 11-month-old son. A kidnap case was registered with the police on December 28.
Gowramma then went to Chennai and convinced her lover that he was the father of the child. Shivamani’s parents, who accepted Gowramma’s claim, decided to get the two married on January 5. But in the nick of time, police traced Gowramma and revealed her story to Shivamani’s family. The infant was rescued.
