A man disguised as a CID officer, abducted an Indian woman and escaped with hergold jewellery worth Dh9,000 in Sharjah.
Ambali Subramani an x-ray technician in a private medical clinic was walking towards her home near Mubarak Centre at around 1.30pm in the afternoon for her lunch break.
A man in his mid 30s, wearing a maroon coloured Kandora and a cap drove by in a white saloon car and introduced himself as a CID officer.
“He first wanted to see my labour card. But when I told him that I had come to the UAE just a month ago and only had my employment letter and passport and visa copy, he asked me to get into the car saying that the documents had to be examined further,” said Ambali, recounting her experience.
“After I got into the car he pretended to be driving towards the police station and then asked me to show him all my gold ornaments. That is when I said I had to call my husband,” she said.
The man immediately grabbed her bag where the mobile phone was kept.
“I was scared, so I immediately gave him my gold chain and ear rings and my wedding ring. He wanted me to produce the bill. I then told him the jewellery was purchased in India. Meanwhile, he stopped the car in a deserted area and said he would be back within five minutes and left the place,” she added.
But her presence of mind at that time made her note down the vehicle registration number, which has been now handed over to the Sharjah police officials.
