Nagpur: A woman and five teenaged girls drowned in a pond at Sawangi Deoli village in Hingana tehsil of Nagpur district today, police said here.
They had gone to the pond on the occasion of ‘Hartalika’ puja, which precedes Ganesh Chaturthi.
The deceased were identified as Manda Nagose (45), Priya Raut (17), Janavhi Choudhary (13), Pooja Dadmal (17), Poonam Dadmal (18) and Pranali Raut (16), police said.
Apparently, some of them slipped into deep water and the others too drowned while trying to rescue them. The bodies were fished out and sent for autopsy, police said.
