Woman, allegedly raped, filmed, blackmailed by 5 BJP workers

AHMEDABAD: On the pretext of giving jobs, five active members of BJP sexually exploit and blackmailed women into prostitution in Naliya town of Kutch district.

An FIR has been registered against these members of Gujarat BJP under the IT Act and for rape, kidnapping and blackmailing.

According to Ahmedabad Mirror report, the elected members of the ruling party Shantilal Solanki, Ashwin Thakkar, Vipul Thakkar, Govind and Chetan Thakkar were among the 10 people whose name registered in the FIR.

In a complaint, the rape victim, Sangita (name changed) said that she worked at Solankis gas agency in Naliya as a computer operator in 2015.

The accused, Shantibhai Solanki, convenor of the OBC cell of BJP unit of Kutch district and the owner of the agency called her home on the pretext of giving her salary advance.

When Sangita had gone to his house, Solanki and his friends Bharat Darji and Vipul Thakkar gave her spiked cold drink which made her unconscious and gangrape her, she alleged.

The accused also videographed the whole act and raped her later on several occasions by threatening to circulate it, said the 21-year-old graduate.

There, he spiked my drink, leaving me partially unconscious. Three people took turns to rape me that day and they video-taped the whole incident. When I regained consciousness, they showed me the video and threatened to kill my brother and mother if I didn’t do their bidding,” she said in the FIR.

She also alleged that a 65 member’s racket including politicians and builders active in Naliya lured the girls with promise of employment.

“There are over 35 other women who are exploited similarly and used as escorts for influential people,” the FIR reads.

The Superintendent of the Police (Kutch West) Markand Chauhan said that all the accused are absconding and a Special Investigation Team has been launched to nab the culprits.

Kutch district BJP Chief Keshubhai Patel condemns the incident and suspended them after their names cropped up in a complaint.
