Within a month of Loya’s death, Amit Shah was freed of all charges

In July 2010, the CBI had arrested Amit Shah in connection with the alleged staged killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in 2005.

The Supreme Court shifted the case out of Gujarat in September 2012, to Maharashtra, stating that it was “convinced that in order to preserve the integrity of the trial, it is necessary to shift it outside the state.”

Brijgopal Harkishan Loya, the judge presiding over the CBI special court in Mumbai, died between the night of 30 November and the early morning of 1 December 2014, while on a trip to Nagpur.

He was then hearing the Sohrabuddin case, where the prime accused was Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah.

The media had reported that the 48-year-old Loya died of a heart attack. While Loya’s family argued that he was fit and healthy and there was no heart attack history in the immediate family.

The new CBI judge appointed in the case dropped all charges against BJP President within a month of Loya’s death. Loya’s family said that Loya was under pressure over Amit Shah’s case and was offered a bribe of Rs 100 crore to manage it.
