The second improved version of Aakash
tabletnumbering one lakh is going to be available for university
students in April with increased processing capacity and battery hour, the
Lok Sabha was informed today.
The tablet will be available for school children too under the
National Mission for School Education through Information and
Communication Technology, the process for which was on, Union
Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said replying to
supplementaries during the Question Hour.
“Five, six years later every student will have a tablet in
hishand,” Mr Sibal said.
The Minister added that the present budget of Rs 700 crore had
been made available only under the National Mission for Higher
Education.
He said that based on the feedback about the first version,
database, the company supplying the tablet, had effected several
changes and there were no more any hitches in the working of the
machine.
The processing capacity of the second version was 700 Mega
Hertz and its battery charge will last three hours.
Replying to a question about the norms for distribution of
tablet, Mr Sibal said once the manufacturing capacity was
determined, it would be decided as to whom it was to be given
first.
