Withdraw tariff hike or perish, eetela warns Kiran

TRS Legislature Party leader Eetela Rajender has warned Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy that he would meet the same fate as the TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu if he did not rollback the power tariff he had hiked.

Rajender, party MLA Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy, senior leader Nayani Narasimha Reddy and many party workers were arrested by the police when they laid siege to the Vidyut Soudha, headquarters of the Electricity Department in Khairatabad, in protest against the recent hike of power chares. The TRS has undertaken protest demonstrations throughout the Telangana region on Tuesday. It may be mentioned here that party supremo K Chandrasekhara Rao had given a call from Delhi to stage dharnas throughout the region on Tuesday against the power tariff hike.
Police have taken several party leaders and cadres earlier in the day as a preventive measure.

Yet, the TRS leaders managed to reach the Vidhyut Soudha with a large number of workers and there was tension when they tried to gatecrash into Vidhyut Soudha. Police and TRS activists pushed and jostled each other. Finally police had taken the TRS leaders as well as workers into their custody, to clear the traffic that has come to a standstill on the busy Somajiguda-Punjagutta road.

Speaking to the media, Eetela warned the Chief Minister that he would go the same way as Chandrababu Naidu if he did not take immediate steps to rollback the power tariff. He said that the Congress government was digging its own grave by hiking the power charges. He said that the enhanced charges have placed an unbearable burden on the common man.

In Warangal district, TRS MLA Vinaya Bhaskar led the party’s agitation. Party workers raised anti-Congress slogans and demanded immediate rollback of power tariff. In all the Telangana districts, TRS leaders organized the dharnas. (NSS)
