Withdraw false cases against JNU students, demand Urdu varsity faculty

Hyderabad: The faculty of Moulana Azad National Urdu University has demanded withdrawal of “false cases” against the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University including students union president Kanhaiya Kumar.

While seeking justice for JNU students, MANUU Teachers’ Association also asked the central government to avoid interference into the functioning of universities, saying they should remain autonomous.

In a statement, the teachers’ association expressed solidarity with JNU students community. “In the last few months vested interests have been spreading canard to score political grey points and the government is trying to curtail and muzzle the voices of the secular, marginalized and rational groups across the country,” it said.

“We are pained and saddened with the obnoxious and biased mindset engaged to suppress the rights of freedom of speech and expression in the universities, which are the cradles of nurturing rational and quizzical minds for the future of the country and the society,” it added.

The Teachers’ Association said the recent incidents at University of Hyderabad and JNU were alarming.
