Mumbai, August 11: When Wipro pitches for business process outsourcing work from prospective clients in India, it turns to Wividus — a BPO managing work for its various divisions and group companies including the official BPO arm, Wipro BPO.
The 300-people strong Wividus is the internal outsourcing division managing various business processes for the over one-lakh strong organisation.
The BPO arm of IT firm showcases the work done by Wividus to Indian firms looking to outsource various business processes.
Wipro BPO, which contributed about 9% to Wipro’s total revenues of Rs 6,274 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal, has five customers in India.
“In 2001-02 Wividus provided all kinds of work such as claims processing, financial accounting, HR & procurement, travel scheduling and reimbursements etc for about 22,000 people of Wipro, our total headcount then, Ashutosh Vaidya, senior vice president and head of Wipro BPO, said.
“Now, Wipro’s headcount has grown five times and revenue three times, and Wividus still does the work with 99.9% accuracy and on time. We use this division to showcase the capability we have to our India customers,” he told DNA.
Also, Wipro BPO is looking at increasing revenues through acquisitions. “Wipro’s IT services business is growing and so are we. Any incremental contribution from Wipro BPO to the group’s revenue will mean we have to grow by huge pace. But through acquisitions that incremental growth is possible. So we are looking at acquisitions in various geographies,” Vaidya said.
He, however, did not provide any timeline, region or size of a probable acquisition citing confidentiality.
In the current fiscal Wipro BPO plans to add about 10,000 people to its existing strength of 22,824 excluding subsidiaries. He said the profile of people recruited in the BPO has changed over the years. “In BPO we hire chartered accountants, lawyers, market analysts, MCAs and Java programmers that shows the complexity of work we handle,” Vaidya said.
