Wipro Introduces Greener Desktops In India!

New Delhi, January 31: Wipro’s IT business arm Wipro Infotech has rolled out its environment-friendly and toxin-free Wipro Greenware desktop PCs, which are made using materials free of lethal chemicals.

Mr. Anand Sankaran, senior vice-president and business head, India & ME business, Wipro announced that the newly launched desktops, which are based on the Intel Core 2 Duo processor, do not contain any carcinogenic materials including PVC and brominated flame retardants (BFRs).

Mr. Sankaran added that greenware would be 15-20 percent out of the yearly desktop output of 2-lakh units.

“After this we are going to launch greenware laptops,” he said.

Mr. Anurag Behar, chief executive of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering Ecoeye, Social and Community Initiatives, stated, “Wipro considers the launch of PVC and BFR free products a major breakthrough in clean production and recycling policy. A very difficult process with no alternative solution, Wipro worked with 37 overseas suppliers for over two years to come out with the completely toxin free product.”

Mr. Behar added that the exclusion of toxin materials has made the recycling of the electronic products securer.

In India, the company owns 17 e-waste collection centres where products get accumulated and then reprocessed.

Around twelve Wipro campuses in India had been certified green buildings adding recently the company had established “green data centre” in Delhi.
