Wipro disappoints, Nifty down by 15 pts

Mumbai, January 21: Heavy sell-off in technology counters amid a dismal third quarter numbers from software exporter Wipro pulled the S&P CNX Nifty down by 15 points at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) here today.

The 50-share index Nifty moved in a range between 5,717.55 and 5,674.50 before closing at 5,696.50, down 15.10 points or 0.26 per cent over its previous close.

Trading commenced on a weak note amidst mixed Asian cues.

The key index made a failed attempt to recover mid-afternoon.

But intense selling pressure in the technology counters impacted by lower than expected third quarter earning from Wipro pulled down the Nifty.

The negative bias resulted in selling in counters like ONGC and Bharti Airtel as well.

Wipro, ONGC, PNB, ACC, DLF, Sterlite Industries, Kotak Bank, HCL Tech, HDFC and Tata Power were the top Nifty losers.
