Madhya Pradesh assembly polls which are to be held later this year is heating up as the Congress party is sensing an opportunity to end BJP’s 15-year regime in the state, and there’s no denying that Congress is desperate to win MP.
The current BJP government which is led by the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is facing considerable anti-incumbency with issues such as youth unemployment, widespread low-level corruption and farmer dissatisfaction causing BJP much discomfort.
However, the current chief minister himself remains largely popular and is banking on BJP’s ground. Earlier this year surveys had predicted a clear edge for Congress, but the gap has narrowed in intervening months.
Congress party needs this victory to serve as a springboard for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Moreover, apart from Punjab and a coalition government in Karnataka, Congress doesn’t have any regime in big states. Hence, winning MP as well as Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh will give the party with a huge boost and strengthen its cadre.
