Former Indian badminton Chanpion Pullela Gopichand, who is now the coach of P V Sindhu, asserted that Sindhu has played well in world championship finals. ‘We had hopes that Sindhu will bag the Gold medal. Though she could not get it, she has showed her excellent playing and this was one of her best matches’, he said.
Gopichand arrived in the City today along with Sindhu and they were accorded a warm welcome by supporters and sports lovers at the Shamshabad airport. Speaking to media, he said Sindhu will definitely win gold medal in future.
Sindhu, speaking on the occasion, expressed happiness over winning the Silver medal in the world championship tournament, but added she was disappointed at not getting the Gold. In the final match, every point was important, and she has played keeping this in mind, Sindhu said.
She expressed the hope that one day she will win Gold medal in the finals. Winning the Gold is her aim now, she added. She said that she has won three World championship Medals so far, and though she failed to bag the Gold, she has received acclaim from the people for her performance. She said that the Central and State Governments were extending cooperation and support for the women sportspersons. (NSS)
