Wimbledon 2016: Djokovic’s early exit leaves Serena shocked

Johannesburg : World number one Serena Williams has revealed that top-ranked men’s player Novak Djokovic’s early exit from the Wimbledon Championship left her shocked as she expected him to stage a sensational comeback.
Djokovic’s hopes of securing a calendar Grand Slam were crushed after he was beaten 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) by the unheralded Sam Querrey of the United States in the rain-hit Wimbledon third round on Saturday.

Williams, who is seeking record-equalling 22nd major title, said that she was surprised to see Djokovic go out of the All England Club prematurely, Sport24 reported.

She, however, saluted Djokovic for his ‘historic’ achievement of winning four Grand Slam titles in a row– Wimbledon, US Open (2015), Australian Open, French Open (2016).

Williams, who hasn’t won a major since last year’s US Open, also stated that fear of suffering a humbling loss like Djokovic is keeping her focused ahead of last 16 clash against Svetlana Kuznetsova on Monday. (ANI)
