New Delhi: The Delhi government will seek public opinion from Tuesday onwards on the implementation of the second phase of the odd-even car restriction scheme in the national capital.
“It is a big question whether it should be implemented. There is a huge demand among the public for the odd-even scheme. Public opinion is necessary. From tomorrow (Tuesday), public opinion will be sought in a structured manner,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told reporters here on Monday.
He said Aam Aadmi Party legislators will reach out to the people in their respective constituencies to seek view on the scheme, which aims at reducing road traffic as well as pollution in Delhi.
Under the odd-even scheme enforced in Delhi on a pilot basis for a fortnight from January 1, four-wheelers with odd registration numbers plied on odd dates and even numbered vehicles on even dates.
The chief minister said people could send their suggestions on ‘oddevenidea@gmail.com’.
A phone number for soliciting public suggestions would be launched soon to ask if people want the scheme to be implemented again and if so from when and its duration. They will be given the option of February 14, March 1, April 1 and May 1.
“We will ask if it should be implemented for only 15 days more, 15 days in a month or for a full month or permanently,” Kejriwal said.
He said it is a key concern of the government to ask whether many people will opt to buy another car if odd-even curbs are put again.
Kejriwal said the scheme triggered a political backlash wherever it was implemented, except Delhi.
