Stating that Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM contesting the upcoming Bihar polls would lead to communal polarisation benefitting BJP, CPI today said the Left Front will expose the “game” being played by the two parties.
Referring to media reports on the rise in communal clashes in “BJP-dominated areas” in the state, CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy expressed fears that AIMIM’s campaign for the election may only increase the tension as polls near.
“AIMIM contesting Bihar elections may polarise religious communities there. Already, in the last two-three months, there is 300 per cent increase in communal clashes in Bihar, particularly in constituencies where BJP got bigger majority.
“Even if AIMIM is going to get few seats, it is not going to improve condition of minorities in Bihar. That is only going to help more polarisation of a section of Hindus behind BJP,” Reddy told PTI.
Stressing that “communalism can be defeated only by secularism and not counter-communalism”, Reddy said minorities in Bihar should see the threat and rout BJP and AIMIM.
“I can’t exactly say there is a tacit understanding between them. But definitely they complement each other. Though they criticise each other bitterly, both get benefits by this type of polarisation. We would like to expose this game of the communal parties,” he said.
The former MP also hit out at the incumbent JD(U)-RJD combine saying people are tired of corruption and added this was the reason why Left parties chose to contest polls as an independent block.
