Will Central Govt. consider ‘UT status for Hyderabad’?

Hyderabad: After scrapping of Article 370, speculation increased in political circles that Central Govt. may consider Union Territory (UT) Status for Hyderabad.

It may be mentioned that Hyderabad as the UT was the demand of all political parties expect MIM at the time of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. However, at that time, Hyderabad was declared joint capital for both Telangana and the Andhra Pradesh States.

According to the report published in Deccan Chronicle, the idea of Hyderabad as UT is being discussed in BJP circles as it will bring Hyderabad under direct administration of Center. If the speculation becomes reality, it will also help BJP to stand against MIM.

It may be noted that BJP leaders are already demanding action against the MIM floor leader, Mr. Akbaruddin Owaisi over his 15-minutes remark.

The speculation over Union Territory increased ahead of Liberation Day, 17th September.

Although, since the formation of Telangana State, TRS is against of celebrating Liberation Day, BJP leaderships want BJP Chief, Mr. Amit Shah to hoist the National Flag in Hyderabad on 17th September.

Meanwhile, the leaders of Congress, TRS and MIM did not rule out the possibility as BJP has scrapped Article 370 recently.

Expressing views over the issue, Mr. B. Vinod Kumar, TRS politburo member said that BJP won’t take such step as it will strengthen TRS in the State. It will also trigger protests across the State, he added.

Mr. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Telangana PCC Chief dismissed the rumours and said that it is not possible.

A senior MIM leader said that the party will launch massive protest if such attempts are made.
