Texas, March 01: One child has died in an accident caused by wildfires in the US state of Texas, where the inferno has devastated 130,000 acres of land and burned scores of homes.
The fires, which broke out on Sunday at noon, destroyed more than 60 homes and caused an accident that killed a five-year old girl, CNN reported.
Forestry officials joined the local fire department to assist on dousing flames. They responded to 63 fires across 132,854 acres, mostly around Amarillo in Texas Panhandle.
“To know everything you worked so hard for, it’s all gone,” said one of the victims of the incident.
Meanwhile, blinding smokes from the massive fire along the highway in Midland County caused several car accidents.
Officials believe the collapse of power lines by high winds on Sunday initiated the fire in the first place.
Calmer winds on Monday helped firefighters put the flames out faster.
The US National Weather Service predicts that dry weather conditions in Texas through Thursday could raise the risks of an increase in the wildfires there.
