Siliguri, September 09: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s convoy was stopped by an wild elephant near Sevoke.
“Chief Minister’s convoy was stopped for about 17 minutes when an adult elephant crossed Bhattacharjee’s route near Sevoke bazar when he was going to a nearby bungalow,” Inspector General of Police (North Bengal) K L Tamta told PTI.
The pilot car immediately stopped the convoy of chief minister who was on the way to Mongpong bungalow with his wife Meera Bhattacharjee, he said.
The headlights of the vehicles were put off immediately as the elephant emerged out of the roadside forest.
It slowly crossed the road to enter the forest on the other side without harming anybody, Tamta said.
The convoy resumed its journey and chief minster and his wife reached the bungalow safely, IG said.
Bhattacharjee came here on a two-day visit today. He was going to the bunaglow after addressing an election rally here this evening before polls to Siliguri Municipal Corporation on September 13.
