WikiLeaks expose: BJP firm on ouster of UPA

Hyderabad, May 27: The BJP will continue to disrupt the functioning of Parliament seeking the ouster of UPA government in the backdrop of the WikiLeaks expose on the cash-for-votes imbroglio involving the government.

There was no other way left for the government but to go, senior party leader M. Venkaiah Naidu told a press conference here on Saturday.

He said the government could not get away claiming that the controversy was over with the completion of the term of 14 {+t} {+h} Lok Sabha and that it won fresh mandate of voters to return to power. If that was so, why was the Congress crying foul over Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the disturbances in that State during his previous term.

Nothing new

Mr. Naidu added that there was nothing new about the content of India cables accessed through WikiLeaks as far as cash-for-votes charge was concerned but it gave strength to the argument of the Opposition. They produced more evidence to what transpired between the government and the parties and MPs that aided the government to tide over the confidence motion in Lok Sabha on July 28, 2008.

The government ought to have resigned after the Left parties withdrew support over the nuclear deal. But, it won over the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal by various means and also rewarded 28 MPs who came to its rescue by giving them tickets in 2009 polls.

“What more evidence was required than the issue of tickets to nail the government?” he asked.

He sought a committee under the supervision of the Supreme Court to dig out the truth in the whole controversy.

Referring to cross voting in the Legislative Council elections here, Mr. Naidu wanted open ballot in polls to Upper Houses of legislature to prevent its recurrence.
