Hyderabad, January 01: Depressed after her husband’s death and her poor financial condition, a 35-year-old woman committed suicide after giving poison-laced soft drink to her three children at Neredmet yesterday night. One of the children died along with her mother.
Neredmet police said that Jyothi (35), who has been under depression since her husband Srinivas died seven months ago, bought a soft drink for her three children — Meghana (14), Varshita (12), Nanda Kishore (10). But she poisoned it before making them drink it.
Two of the children immediately started vomiting. Subsequently, Jyothi hanged herself from the ceiling and died. The neighbours who heard the cries of the children, forcibly opened the door to find Jyothi dead and the children vomiting. They alerted the police and shifted the children to the hospital.
“The hospital authorities said that Varshita died but her two siblings could survive as they vomited,” Neredmet sub-inspector Vijay Kumar told Express.
Vijay Kumar said that no suicide note was recovered. A case was registered under Cr.PC 174 (suspicious death).
