Dubai, March 31: An Emirati widow, accused of having sex out of the wedlock, was sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the Court of Misdemeanours on Wednesday. Her illicit stateless partner was also given one-year jail term to be followed by deportation.
The woman’s trial began in November last year, less than seven months after her husband committed suicide. The housewife, 34, is accused of having illicit sex with a 27-year-old businessman.
The woman was arrested on July 7 last year after fingerprints taken from her house in Rashidiyah matched with the male defendant’s.
The businessman was also arrested and he admitted to having sex with the woman in her house and in Al Mamzar. In his statement, he said that the last time he had sex with her was about five months before her husband’s suicide.
The report of the forensic medicine showed that semen sample taken from the housewife matched with her accomplice’s. The medical reports of both showed they each had AIDS. Her lawyer presented the court with a medical report denying that her client had AIDS. Counsel Mona Al Ansary handed the court a report issued by a hospital in Ras al khaimah stating that her client was AIDS negative. The presiding judge told her that the case revolved around an illicit sex charge and not about the medical condition of the woman accused.
In the dawn of April 14 last year, the housewife’s husband committed suicide by hanging in his parents’ residence in Al Warqaa. He was reportedly under stress and had been living separate from his wife for nearly one year. Members in his family told the police that he was having a hard time getting over his problems with his wife.
Few hours earlier, the housewife came back with her accomplice from shopping to find out that her place was in a mess. She called the police. By the time they arrived, her accomplice had left the place. The police then lifted fingerprints from the house.
During the interrogation following her arrest, she told the police that she was seeing the defendant, who is her relative because he was taking care of her. But she denied having a sexual relation with him.
