New Delhi: Parvin Shahid, widow of Indian hockey player late Mohammed Shahid told that she will return all the awards won by her husband. She alleged that the government has failed to fulfil any of the promises it made to her after the death of her husband.
Shahid whose team won a gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, earned the title of ‘master dribbler’ for his on-field performance. He was bestowed Arjuna Award in 1980-81 and Padma Shri in 1986.
Parvin told that after her husband’s death several ministers had promised to start a tournament in Shahid’s name and to name a stadium after him. She said what’s the use of these medals when a tournament or stadium can’t be named after him. She further revealed that the administration didn’t allow her to meet PM Modi.
Parvin said the government extended no help to her; Shahid’s pension is the only source of income. Shahid passed away on July 20, 2016.
