Government’s show cause notice on leasing the wakf land without approval
Hyderabad, August 5 (agencies): Secretary department of minority welfare Dr. Mohd. Ali Rafath has served a show cause notice to the state Wakf Board on leasing a wakf land in Guntur without government’s approval, seeking clarification and said that why the Wakf Board should not be dissolved for ignoring this important point?
State Wakf Board is the only self-empowered institue, which functions according to the central act. Just to target this institute, the intention of the government turns suspicious.
He has given 15 days time to reply the said notice otherwise it would be presumed that the Board has nothing to clarify and whatever allegations are made, they are true. According to the details, in Reddypalem village of Guntur, the Wakf Board had leased 6.77 acre land for three years to one Khaja Wali for Rs. 12000 per annum.
A letter had been handed over to chairman of the minority welfare committee against this deal. In connection with the same, when the collector of Guntur was contacted and was enquired about the value of the same land, he said that it was worth Rs. one crore per acre.
He further said that in order to lease any wakf land, the approval of the government is needed according to the GO 142 issued on March 5, 2007. This is how the lease deal is totally in violation of the said GO.
It is also suggested to the Wakf Board that since the said land is leased to an educational institution for three years, no permanent structure should be built on this land. However, the officials of Wakf Board said that the show cause notice would be suitably replied.
It was also revealed that when the said secretary of minority welfare was the district collector of Guntur, he had recommended to lease the land for Rs. 1700 per acre whereas the Wakf Board has leased the land for the educational purpose of Muslim children at Rs. 12000 per acre.
As soon as he took the charge of the secretary of minority welfare and within fifteen days, threatening to dissolve the Wakf Board is not understandable.
