Why is my husband seen as a villain, wonders Chitrangda Singh

Mumbai, December 01: Actor Chitrangda Singh is basking in the success and the accolades that have been coming her way for her recent film, which was a commercial one. The actor is happy to shed her the tag of a ‘serious’ actor with it.While she has more often than not been referred to as ‘a thinking man’s sex symbol’, she’s now willing to shed it for a more fun one.

“I am extremely overwhelmed with the response to the character. I wasn’t expecting this kind of reaction at all. I knew it was the role of this bold Economics teacher, but everyone’s been saying it was sexy. It feels nice, but I don’t take that tag too seriously. Of course, it’s great being called sexy, but I know it is for the character I play, not for me as a person,” says Chitrangda.

After her debut film, the actor had taken a four-year break to have a baby. Would she take a break again if her personal life made certain demands? “I doubt it, I would be able to do that. A couple of years back, I wasn’t as focussed and committed as I am today. And that is the reason why it was easy for me to change my numbers and say, ‘okay I don’t wanna do it anymore.’ But now after having stayed away from it for four years and wanting to be back on the sets, I think it will be difficult for me to do that again,” says the actor.

In the same breath, she continues, “If you find your passion in life, it gets very difficult for you to get out of it. After a point of time, it isn’t about ambition; it makes you feel like your life is worth it.”

Considering she’s married, has a son and two families to answer to, how do they react to stories of her link-ups and marital problems with golfer-husband Jyoti Randhawa? “They understand. When I started to shoot with John Abraham, the rumours about me and him getting close were weird. I had told my family that this is what you are going to hear. They know me so well. As far as Jyoti is concerned, he has always been okay with it. I don’t know why people have to see him as a villain. He has been very supportive and I wouldn’t have been able to do all this without him,” she says.
