Why did Naidu skip meet on Babli, asks Congress

Hyderabad, July 24: Alleging that TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu lacked sincerity on the controversial Babhli barrage issue, Congress today wondered why he did not attend the all-party meeting convened by the Andhra Pradesh government today.

“Chandrababu Naidu enacted a big drama by visiting Maharashtra. We want to ask him why he did not attend the all-party meeting convened by the state government. He was sent a special invitation. It was courtesy and morally correct for him to attend the meeting,” Congress Chief Whip M Bhatti Vikramarka told reporters.

Congress whip S Sailajanath claimed that Naidu did not attend an all-party meeting convened by state government to discuss the controversial Pothireddypadu head regulator issue which also dealt with providing drinking water. The meeting took place when Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was Chief Minister.

Asked why Congress MP from Nizamabad Madhu Yashki Goud was not allowed to attend the meeting, Sailajanath said the state government has decided as a principle to allow one or two representatives from each party for the all-party meeting.

“Chief Minister K Rosaiah is an experienced leader. He is there. Goud, being a Lok Sabha member and can express his views at various fora,” Sailajanath said.

The state government today convened the all-party meeting to discuss the controversial Babhli issue ahead of the all-party meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on July 26.
