Wherever any communal violence occurs in the country Muslims suffer the most. Planned attack was made on houses of Muslim minority by the Sikh rioters at Kishanbagh. Muslims youth were targeted, their houses were looted, their vehicles were set ablaze before the eyes of police. During that police and BSF jawans took no action. However they opened fire on unarmed Muslims who were already became victims of the riot.
Justice would have been done if BSF aimed their rifles towards rioters. People felt that had the police and BSF controlled the situation and showed vigilance such a massive destruction would not have happened. No one has the answer to the question as to who ordered BSF to open fire. At a time when Muslim minority was becoming the victim of violence, BSF instead of firing on rioters and dispersing them, opened fire on unarmed Muslims.
Although government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 6 lakh to the family of deceased but will that amount bring back the young Mohammed Fareed’s life who got married just 3 months ago? Can this paltry amount bring back the pleasure of his pregnant wife? Can these 6 lakhs bring back father’s love to the child growing in his/her mother’s womb? BSF Jawans who opened fire should be severely punished for their partial and wicked role they played during the riots.
