NEW DELHI: Student of Jamia Millia Islamia sustained bullet injuries after an unidentified man opened fires in the presence of the police force.
The reported incident took place during the protest against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens called by the Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC).

In the video tweeted by news agency ANI, the assailant can be seen brandishing the gun outside the varsity campus and can be heard saying “ye lo azadi” (come and take freedom) while the police stood as mute spectators.
According to witnesses, Gopal was seen raising religious slogans ‘Jai Shri Ram’ before he opened fire with a country-made pistol at the anti-CAA rally.
The bullet hit a Journalism student of Jamia, identified as Shadab, in the arm. He was rushed to the Holy Family hospital in Jamia Nagar and his condition is stated to be stable.
The attacker identified as 19-year-old Ram Bhagat Gopal Sharm was apprehended by the police.

Sharma is a resident of Jewar area of Gautam Buddha Nagar District in Uttar Pradesh went live on Facebook several times to record the entire incident.
While scrolling through his Facebook posts, it was found that Gopal made a numbers of posts in which he mentioned that he was a lone Hindu in the area and none of the mediapersons covering the protest were Hindus.
In a separate Facebook post, Gopal, wrote, “Shaheen Bagh… Khel Khatam (Game over, Shaheen Bagh)”.
The women and residents of Shaheen Bagh are protesting against the controversial CAA and the NRC for the past one month.
In a January 28 post, Gopal said that “everyone should take his Facebook profile seriously”.
Jamia has been at the focus since December 15, last year after the protests in the national capital against the amended citizenship Act turned violent.
