Who is Rahul. . .? asks UP IAS officer

A senior bureaucrat in the Chief Ministerial secretariat of the Uttar Pradesh government is perhaps the best example of what power and greed turn one into.

In a rather strange revelation, this IAS officer who is the secretary to the Chief Minister Mayawati, failed to recognise Rahul Gandhi. Not only this, he also spoke words which were insulting to the Congress General Secretary.

When Rahul was touring the troubled villages of UP including Bhatta-Parsaul, this secretary to the CM was informed by the then DM of Ghaziabad. In response this IAS officer asked the DM about Rahul Gandhi’s identity and said that whoever he is will face sticks. “Who is this Rahul? Let him go. He will understand when he gets hit with sticks,” a source said.

According to the source, when the Ghaziabad DM wanted to give proper information to this IAS officer in ‘Pancham Tal’ (CMO) then he said that he did not know Rahul.

1988 batch IAS officer is considered very close to the chief minister and holds half a dozen departments. His departments include water resources, alternate energy sources, energy, urban development and urban employment and poverty alleviation department along with secretary to the CM.

Rahul Gandhi is a known political figure in India. For the last three years he is going through villages of Uttar Pradesh and making people aware of corruption in the state. This officer was never questioned in the incident. His reply to the Ghaziabad DM is irresponsible under the light of security reasons. It is the duty of a state to provide security to the general secretary of a party ruling at the Center.

Rahul Gandhi is a very big name in politics. He is the son of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and late PM Rajiv Gandhi. He has a great family background. In India, he is considered the youth icon of many.

The big question is when the Congress party considers him a future PM then such a comment by an IAS officer is questionable under the civil services norms.
