Human Right Activists celebrated the third death anniversary of late Kannabeeran who always used to fight for the poor. He was the guiding spirit behind Civil Liberties Movement. He had started Civil Liberties Movement in 1968 at Srikakulam and took an active part in Civil Liberties Committee which was formed in 1970. Mr. R. Subba Rao, Mr. Verasham and Mr. Jwalamukhy, Communist leaders were also impressed with his movement. Mr. Kannabeeran had filed a writ in High Court against the restriction on the revolutionary poetry of Mr. P. Venkateshwarlu imposed by the Govt. He fought the death sentence of revolutionary leaders like Mr. Bhomayya and Mr. Krishna Goud. He continued his struggle till his last breath (30th December 2010).
Mr. Bala Gopal was his companion in the struggle for the poor. Mr. Bala Gopal died on 8th October 2009.
Mr. Kannabeeran had appeared before Bhargav Commission during emergency and raised his voice against the encounters. In Shanker Guha Murder case he had proved who was behind his killing.
Mr. Kannabeeran and K. Balagopal were the champions fighting for the downtrodden. Now a big question is who will take their place to lead Civil Liberties Movement?
