Whistleblower scheme to curb spurious drug trade

Jammu, December 16: In a bid to rein in those engaged in spurious drug trade more effectively, the Centre has framed a whistleblower scheme to reward those who provide vital information on people indulging in manufacture and sale of fake medicines.

Under the scheme whistleblowers in the area of drugs, cosmetics and medical devices will get a maximum of 20 per cent of the total cost of consignment seized, an official release said here today.

However, the reward will not in any case exceed Rs 25 lakh, it said, adding, the eligibility of the informer and the quantum of the cash rerwards shall be decided by the expert committee handling the case and the identity of the informer will be kept a secret.
