Education is imperative for development, prosperity, success and respect in the world. Without education a man is incomplete and his life is away from thoughts, judgment, vision and pure outlook. Education is everything and disability does not stand as an obstacle between man and education or development. Only Allah’s help is what one needs. Thanks to Allah Almighty that though he didn’t give me healthy legs but gave me a healthy mind otherwise I would be deprived of education. These views were expressed by 33 year old Ghulam Dastagir whose both legs are affected by polio.
Ghulam Dastagir a government school teacher, is father of 3 children. He has done MA in Urdu and B.Ed. He told that he was affected by polio when he was just 6. He disclosed that his friends have a role in making his life because they used to carry him to school or college.
Regarding his marital life he revealed that no one was willing to marry him, until his maternal aunt’s daughter who was also wretched of being rejected by the prospective grooms, suggested her mother ‘since you are searching a suitable groom for me since long, and could not find one yet, I am ready to marry Ghulam Dastagir.’ Her mother liked the idea and thus both of them tied the wedding knot. Family members were surprised to learn this, thinking ‘how a good looking and educated girl agreed to marry a disabled man. But the girl preferred his education and religiosity over his physical weakness.
