When Biryani made Viquar’s life miserable

A couple of days after the encounter of five undertrials, questions are being raised for such a security cover put in order to transfer the deceased from Warangal jail to Hyderabad court.

Police version of Biryani

It was in December 2011 when the undertrials Viqaruddin Ahmed along with his two associates, Khaja and Suleman, wished to have ‘biryani’ at Jangaon on their way back to the Warangal central jail after a court hearing in Hyderabad.

A heated argument followed when the escort party leader denying them biryani, which resulted in more forces being rushed to control the situation.

Soon after the incident, strict instructions were given to the officials involved in counter-terror operations not to stop the police vehicle till it reaches the Nampally criminal court.

Were these instructions ignored Tuesday?

V S Krishna, General Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Human Rights Forum, said Wednesday it was difficult to accept as true that 17 armed policemen couldn’t subdue five handcuffed undertrials.

He also conjectured why the police escort from the jail was 17-member strong Tuesday when it never has more than 10 policemen.

As said by DGP Anurag Sharma that Vikaruddin and Syed Amjad Ahmed wanted to relieve themselves, therefore their handcuffs were taken off and the bus stopped on the lonely stretch.

Back into the vehicle, they tried to snatch a rifle from a escort party— which resulted in the encounter deaths of Viqar together with his four associates.
