New Delhi: Popular mobile messaging service WhatsApp’s new “Status” feature is now available to all users across the globe on iPhone, Android and Windows devices.
The “Status” feature lets users share photos, GIFs or videos overlaid with drawings, emojis and a caption that will be visible to selected friends for 24 hours, before disappearing.
According to a WhatsApp blog, status updates are now end-to-end encrypted.
Tips to use WhatsApp’s ‘Status’ feature:
- Once the app is updated, WhatsApp status update tab can be seen near the Calls and Chats tab.
- Tap on the Status tab.
- Here status posted by all the contacts can be seen.
- To reply to the person who posted the status, tap on that particular status. The replies are sent to regular chats along with the snapshot of that person’s Status.
- To post status, click on the dotted circle with plus sign or you can just tap on “My Status”.
The Status feature has three privacy options.
My contacts: Status will be shared with all contacts.
My contacts except: Status will be shared with all contacts excluding the contacts you don’t want to share.
Only share with: Status will be shared only to the contacts you want to share.
Users can also see who has viewed their Status update by tapping the eye icon at the bottom of any Status update.
WhatsApp has been rolling out updates and features to make the app more secure for its users. The social networking app recently rolled out a two-step verification process for all devices to enhance the security of users’ accounts.
