WhatsApp will no more support outdated Blackberry and Nokia platforms starting July 1, as it has already mentioned before, it will now stop its services for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40, and Nokia S60 platforms on June 30. It was last year that WhatsApp decided to quit giving its support to models of Blackberry and Nokia as their platforms are falling short of additional features functioning. It has already ended its support for Android 2.2 Froyo, iOS 6, and Windows Phone 7 last year in December.
The messaging app extended its support until June this year after it had announced last year about its plans of ending support for few platforms. It extended its support after Blackberry expressed its disappointment over WhatsApp’s decision to quit its support for Blackberry. The company had earlier told these its decision to quit supporting these platforms was solely due to the reason that these outdated platforms do not let the company explore and expand its feature’s in future.
WhatsApp in its official Support page explains, “These platforms don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer OS version, or to a newer Android running OS 2.3.3+, iPhone running iOS 7+, or Windows Phone 8+ so that you can continue using WhatsApp.”
Now the company has made it clear that up gradation to a new operating system would be compulsory for its users if they want to continue using the messaging service.
It has already clarified that there is no way users chat history can currently be transferred from one platform to another but the company will try to provide the option that is sent as attached email if users request so. Users can check their official Support page for the detailed steps.
The messaging app has earlier highlighted how the market has changed since it has launched its app in 2009, replacing all the other messaging apps in all these years and now that it is looking forward to more developments and further addition of features in future which will not be supported by these outdated Blackberries and Nokia platforms, Gadgets 360 reported.
