‘What action have you taken against perpetrators of child abuse: SC asks Centre

New Delhi: The Apex Court today expressing its concern over sexual abuse against minors, asked the Centre about its action it took against the perpetrators in 1,575 victim cases.

The bench was headed by Justice Madan B Lokur, Justice S Abdul Nazeer and Justice Deepak Gupta who observed that in as many as 1,575 sexual abuse cases reported, 286 cases belonged to minor boys or physical abuse in shelter homes across different parts of the country, Indian Express reported.

Additional Solicitor General Pinky Anand appeared on Centre’s behalf told the bench that the government has already informed the states about the abuse data collected.

The top court concerned over the victim’s protection questioned the Addl Solicitor: “1,575 boys and girls are victims of sexual and physical abuse. What have you done about it? Which are the shelter homes where they are kept? What action the states have taken on this.

Senior Advocate Ranjit Kumar appearing for the Bihar government said that the government has no objection if the social audit report of the shelter homes in the state is prepared by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).

While the Bihar government told the top court that three organisations, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi, are ready to examine the victim girls who were abused and exploited in the Muzaffarpur shelter home.
