Western Cape judge cleared of bias claims against prosecution in Dewani trial

Western Cape High Court Judge Jeanette Traverso, who conducted the trial of Shrien Dewani, has been cleared of charges that she was biased against the prosecution.

The Judicial Conduct Committee (JCC) ruled that the complaints were dismissed in terms of “the JSC Act”, reported News24.

The Justice4Anni group and Higher Education Transformation Network (HETN) both complained that Traverso was friendly towards Dewani’s lawyers, and rude and aggressive to state prosecutor Adrian Mopp during the trial last year.

Dewani was accused of plotting with others to kill his wife Anni during their honeymoon in Cape Town in November 2010. (ANI)
