‘West trying to force Iran to withdraw from NPT’

Tehran, December 30: The director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran says some Western countries want Iran to withdraw from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

“I believe that some Western countries, which are unfortunately affected by international Zionism, are trying to force Iran to withdraw from the NPT so that they can create an anti-Iran climate in the international arena,” ISNA quoted Ali-Akbar Salehi as saying on Tuesday.

“We declare it beforehand that Iran respects the NPT, despite all the flaws the treaty has,” the AEOI director added.

“We believe that the treaty contributes to international peace, and we hope that the wise part of the West will overcome its irrational part so that it can seize the opportunity offered by Iran to end the current situation,” he said, referring to Iran’s proposal to buy nuclear fuel for the Tehran Research Reactor.
