Hyderabad, May 20: About 1,84,932 candidates (about 84.41 per cent) qualified for the Common Entrance Examination for admission into Polytechnics (CEEP 2011) the results of which were released by minister for higher and technical education C Damodara Rajanarasimha on Thursday.
A Anirudh of Ranga Reddy district bagged the first rank with 116 out of 120 marks, Sravya Puvvala bagged the second with 115 marks and Gadde Devendra Kumar bagged the third place with 114 marks. Out of the top ten ranks, students from West Godavari bagged six ranks.
There was a an increase from 5.76 per cent in the pass percentage from last year.
Rajanarasimha said that out of 2.23 lakh candidates who registered for the exam, 2.19 lakh wrote it. Out of the 1,63,138 boys, 1,35,068 had qualified (82.79 per cent).
Similarly, out of the 55,961 girls who appeared for the examination, 49,864 girls qualified (89.10 per cent).
The minister said the state government will start two new government colleges at Jogipet in Medak district and Atmakur in Nellore district and seven private colleges for the 2011 academic year. There would be an additional 2,460 seats this year.
The counselling dates will be announced shortly. The results are being dispatched to the candidates.
Many students were taking up the option of polytechnic courses since the last three years as they were getting many job opportunities, the minister said.
He added that the government would invite tenders to construct 21 Polytechnic college buildings in the state for which the NABARD has sanctioned Rs 42 crore.
He reiterated that the state government is committed to introduce a grading system for engineering colleges in the state.
He also said that they would amend the State Education Act 1982 to control engineering colleges and exercise control over colleges and courses.
