‘West baffled by regional movements’

Tehran, April 04: Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani says dictatorial regimes and their Western allies are perplexed by the sweeping popular movements in the Middle East and North Africa.

“Awareness of Muslim masses throughout the region is steeply rising. Major uprisings which have been growing in West Asia and North Africa mark an unprecedented historical event that has baffled regional dictators and their Western supporters,” Majlis news agency (ICANA) quoted Larijani as saying on Monday.

“People are marching forward in all these countries. As people’s awareness rises… it is increasingly unlikely to derail these movements,” he added.

However, it would be “unrealistic” to expect a rapid victory due to the hypocritical ploys of the West and the indecent game by the imperialistic dictatorial government of the US and certain regional rulers, the top Iranian parliamentarian warned.

He described as a “big achievement” the revelation of Washington’s clandestine goals and its dishonesty and said, “The US can no longer claim that it is an advocate of human rights or that it supports nations because it easily allows foreign troops to suppress unarmed Bahraini people who are pursuing their demands through peaceful means.”

Larijani pointed out that before intending to save the Libyan people from the conflagration started by the Western armies and the Libyan government, the US and its allies are trying to sign oil deals “covertly and overtly.”

The United States is currently fighting Muslims through brute force and trickery, he added, emphasizing that the important point in this confrontation is that in both cases, Muslims thwarted the plots through the power of the Islamic awakening.
