We’ll support Cong govt if it faced threat: Chiru

Nellore, August 10: The PRP Chief, Mr Chiranjeevi, has said that his party would support the Congress government, in case an occasion arose when it was likely to fall.

Talking to the media here on Monday, Mr Chiranjeevi said that the intention behind the idea was to avoid the expenditure of mid-term poll on the people. He said there was no other intention behind the proposal.

Mr Chiranjeevi was possibly dismissing newspaper reports that he was trying to join the government, bowing to pressure from his MLAs who wanted ministerial berths. He said his party opposed the Excise policy of the government and planned to organize people’s movement against it. He said when people were suffering to get a pot full of drinking water, the government had opened the flood gates for liquor, he lamented. He said his party was trying to force the government to stand by its election promise of introducing prohibition in phases.

When questioned about his remarks against the Kadapa MP, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mr Chiranjeevi said that he had not made any derogatory remarks against him. Mr Chiranjeevi on Sunday questioned emotionally where from the heirs of politicians were getting thousands of crores of rupees? Though he had not mentioned any name, it was construed that his remarks referred to Mr Jagan, as Mr Chiranjeevi was said to be trying to move closer to the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah.

The PRP president said that he was only supporting the remarks of his party leader, Mr C. Ramachandraiah. He said that he had not talked about any particular person.
