Muslim Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (MASS) organised a unique protest to draw Government’s attention on reservation. Well-dressed educated youths of Muslim community pulled rickshaws and shouted slogans.
According to a news published in Times of India, the Convener of Muslim Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (MASS), Abid Ali, said the agitation was a means to show that Muslim youths would be left with no other choice but to pull rickshaws if the community is denied of reservation.
Ali said, “The Congress-NCP government in state had given 5% reservation to Muslim community. However, the BJP government overruled the decision. It even overlooked high court’s remark which stated that Muslim community needs reservation in education. It proves that the BJP government is against the development of Muslim community.”
Ali further said that the Muslim community lags in education, politics and administration. “Despite strong recommendations by different study panels, the state government has taken no steps to uplift the community,” he said.
