Week on, fire officer son’s body found in Ghaziabad canal

Ghaziabad, January 26: The police on Monday found the body of Ghaziabad Fire Station Officer A P Singh’s son Hemant, exactly a week after he was allegedly hacked to death by his 17-year-old younger brother.

Divers of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) recovered the body from a canal (part of the Hindon) between UP Gate police station and Ghazipur. Divers and police personnel were deployed for the search since January 19, the day the crime was discovered.

Superintendent of Police (City) Rahul Yadvendu said FSO Singh identified his son’s body. It was sent for postmortem after that, he said.

Yadvendu said, “The body bore injury marks on the back of the neck and around the waist. It seems he died due to injury.”

At the police station, Singh said it was tough to believe the police theory — that his eldest son became a victim of his brother Sahil’s jealousy. Sahil had allegedly also told the police that he took the help of his younger stepbrother to dump the body in the Hindon canal.

Asked whether he would visit them in the juvenile home, Singh replied in the negative.

“They should have thought of the consequences before committing such a crime, if they did it,” Singh added.

Based on younger brother Sahil’s (name changed) statement, the police initially believed Hemant, 21, was the criminal — that he had allegedly killed a friend named Lucky at their father’s official quarters in the police Kotwali here.

But the teenager, according to the police, later broke down under intense interrogation and allegedly confessed to having killed Hemant since he was jealous of his elder brother.
