Hyderabad, September 24: The decision of the Supreme Court to defer the verdict in the Ramjanmaboomi-Babri masjid verdict has brought cheers to the 10,000-odd policemen belonging to various districts and performing duties in the City every since the “September blues” began for the department.
All the district forces drawn for the bandobust duties on September 6 were given sent back by the city police following the court order. Additional Commissioner of Police (Co-Ordination) Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said besides the 10,000-odd district police, most of the APSP forces will also be sent back. “Most of these policemen who were drawn from the districts have been away from their families for the last 19 days. Besides, the work in the districts has been getting affected,’’ Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said. The 10,000 police forces were drawn from districts on September 6, keeping in view the various events like Ganesh and Ramzan festivals, Telangana Liberation Day, Ganesh immersion and the verdict on Ramjanmaboomi-Babri masjid.
Police said the issue about when the forces had to be re-drawn, shall be decided based on the court’s decision on September 28. Until then the city police can heave a sign of relief after successfully conducting three major events. “We feel that on September 28 the court might take a decision to postpone the announcement of the verdict until the conclusion of the Commonwealth Games. So making security arrangements for the much anticipated judgment might not take place in the near future,’’ a senior police office told Express.
All the policemen drawn from the districts are facing difficulties in meeting their expenses with the meager Rs 2,000 paid by the police department to each of the police constables as Travel Allowance. When Express spoke to some of these constables, all had a common wish that there should not be any violence following the judgment, so that they can go back to their homes by September 25.
