NEW DELHI: The Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his diplomatic failure as China once again for the fourth time blocked the UN Security Council resolution to designate Jaish-e Mohammed chief Masood Azhar a global terrorist.
The Congress chief took to Twitter and said: “Weak Modi is scared of Xi. Not a word comes out of his mouth when China acts against India. NoMo’s China Diplomacy: Swing with Xi in Gujarat, Hug Xi in Delhi, Bow to Xi in China.”

China made a last-minute objection yesterday to the resolution that was backed by an unprecedented number of countries. China was the only Security Council member to oppose the proposal to declare him a global terrorist and impose sanctions on him.
Wednesday was the deadline to take a decision in the current cycle and because of Beijing’s veto – officially known as a technical hold – the proposal will remain on hold for at least three months.
Masood Azhar has been the red line for Beijing and as it has for a decade protected him. Before Azhar’s case was taken up by the committee, Beijing indicated it would block the sanctions on him.
Last week, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou visited Pakistan for talks with that nation’s leaders. He declared that Beijing was Islamabad’s time-tested friend and would stand by it.
