Hyderabad, July 31: The Congress MP from Vijayawada, Mr Lagadapati Rajagopal, has said that the party would pick up in the 2014 general elections.
Talking to the media here on Friday, Mr Lagadapati said that despite the defeat in the by elections in Telangana region, the Congress party remained strong in the State. He, however, admitted that the results had caused pain to the party leadership.
Recalling that his election survey proved totally correct, Mr Lagadapati said that he got a pre-poll survey conducted by an agency based at Eluru which claimed that all those who had resigned for the cause of Telangana would retain their seats.
It may be mentioned that the Vijayawada MP was criticized by many a Congress leader for the poll survey. While some said that the survey agency was a pocket organization of the MP, the IT Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy had even said that he would urge the party president, Ms Sonia Gandhi, to suspend Mr Rajagopal for announcing the results of such a survey. Calling it a bogus survey, Mr Komatireddy had charged Mr Rajagopal with colluding with the TRS and was aiming at swallowing Wakf properties with the help of that party.
